An AI calorie tracker with no subscription

You can pay once for CalSimple, or not pay at all. Here’s what Lifetime includes, what each plan costs over time, and which one fits how you track.

Updated October 11, 2026

Short answer: yes. CalSimple Lifetime is one payment of $49.99 that unlocks CalSimple Premium for good. It never renews, so there’s nothing to cancel. And if you’d rather not pay at all, the free version gives you 2 free AI scans a day, plus unlimited manual entry, weight logging and progress charts.

What Lifetime includes

Lifetime is CalSimple Premium, paid once instead of every month or year. You get the same app and the same features as a subscriber:

  • Scan every meal, without the free version’s daily limit. Take a photo, snap a nutrition label, or describe the meal in words, like “two eggs and toast with butter”. Each scan shows the calories, protein, carbs and fat, plus every ingredient and amount it counted.
  • Every AI feature, for good. Nothing in Premium is held back for subscribers.
  • Fixes in plain words. If a result looks off, fix it in a few words, like “half the rice”, or edit any number.
  • Your targets and progress. Daily calorie and macro targets from a short quiz (you can edit them), weight logging with a plan chart, and progress charts.

CalSimple is a simple calorie tracker on purpose, so Lifetime doesn’t turn it into a bigger app. It lifts the limit on scanning, so you can log every meal with a photo.

How Lifetime works

  • You buy it in the app, through Apple. The price shows in the app and on the App Store before you pay, and Premium starts right away. There’s no trial on Lifetime.
  • It’s tied to your Apple ID. On a new iPhone, open CalSimple, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases, using the Apple ID you bought it with.
  • It never renews. It unlocks Premium for as long as we offer CalSimple, with no yearly charge and no reminder to cancel.
  • Refunds go through Apple. Apple handles payments and refunds under its own policies. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

The terms of use have the details, including a fair-use limit on unusually heavy use that applies to every plan.

Lifetime vs. monthly vs. yearly: what you pay

Here’s what each plan costs in total if you keep Premium for one, two or three years.

Plan Price After 1 year After 2 years After 3 years
Monthly $3.99 a month $47.88$95.76$143.64
Yearly $29.99 a year $29.99$59.98$89.97
Lifetime $49.99 once $49.99$49.99$49.99

Lifetime costs the same as about 12.5 months of Monthly, so it’s the cheaper choice from month 13 on. By then, Monthly has cost you $51.87. It equals about 1.7 years of Yearly, so it’s cheaper from year 2 on, when Yearly reaches $59.98.

The yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial. We remind you on day 2, and you’re charged on day 3 unless you cancel in iPhone Settings → Subscriptions. Monthly and Lifetime start right away, without a trial.

These are US prices. In other countries the App Store sets the local price, and you see it before you buy. All three plans are also in the pricing section of the home page.

Which plan should you pick?

Start without paying. Use the free scans for a few days, or start the yearly trial and cancel before it ends if CalSimple isn’t for you. Once you know you’ll keep tracking, choose by how long you expect to use Premium:

  • Up to 7 months: Monthly. $3.99 a month, no trial, cancel anytime. It’s the cheapest way to cover a short stretch, or to try Premium when you’re unsure.
  • 8 to 12 months: Yearly. $29.99 a year works out to $2.50 a month, 37% less than Monthly, and it starts with 3 days free.
  • More than 12 months: Lifetime. If you’d renew Yearly even once, Lifetime costs less. It also suits tracking on and off, like a few months each year, because there’s nothing to restart.

You may not need Premium at all. If 2 free AI scans a day cover your main meals and you enter the rest by hand, the free version is enough. Not sure what your daily target should be? The calorie calculator gives you a starting number before you download.

Why most AI calorie apps are subscriptions

Most AI photo calorie apps are sold only as subscriptions. There’s a practical reason. Each photo is analyzed by an AI model, and every analysis costs the app maker money. A subscription covers that cost month after month.

CalSimple has the same cost: each scan is analyzed by an AI model. That’s why the free version has a daily scan limit. We offer Lifetime for people who would rather pay once than add another monthly bill. If you’re weighing CalSimple against other apps, our Cal AI alternative page compares the two.

Common questions

Is there a free version?

Yes. You get 2 free AI scans a day, and they come back the next day. Manual entry, weight logging and progress charts are free and unlimited. Premium, as a subscription or Lifetime, lets you scan every meal.

What happens if I get a new iPhone?

Lifetime moves with your Apple ID, not your phone. Install CalSimple and sign in the same way as before, with Apple or Google, so you see your log. Then open Settings and tap Restore purchases. If it doesn’t come back, contact support and we’ll sort it out.

Can I switch from yearly to Lifetime?

Yes. You can buy Lifetime in the app at any time. Buying it doesn’t cancel your subscription, so cancel that one in iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions → CalSimple, or it will renew. The same goes for Monthly. Any refund request goes to Apple and follows Apple’s policies.

Can I try Premium before buying Lifetime?

Lifetime and Monthly start right away, without a trial. To try Premium first, start the yearly plan’s 3-day free trial, then cancel it and buy Lifetime if you want to keep going.
